Here is a quick primer on the races for district tournament playoff spots as most leagues are entering their final weekend of the regular season.
CBBN 4A
All six spots have been clinched, though the regular season title is up in the air. Chiawana leads Walla Walla by a half game. The Riverhawks play at the Blue Devils on Saturday, with the winner taking the crown -- assuming Chiawana beats Eisenhower tonight.
Wenatchee needs just one win to sew up the third seed, while Richland is clinging to a one-game lead over Davis for the fourth seed. The Bombers play at the Pirates tonight. Moses Lake has also clinched and likely will be the sixth seed.
CBBN 3A
Kamiakin has wrapped up the regular-season title and a first-round bye in the district tournament.
Eastmont and Hanford have already clinched spots in the district tournament. The Wildcats need one win in their final two games to clinch the second seed and a first-round district bye.
From there it becomes a bit muddled.
West Valley and Sunnyside are tied for fourth at 6-6 in league, while Kennewick is 5-7 and Southridge is 4-8. Only three of those teams will advance.
Southridge, which opened the season losing its first eight games and 10 of its first 11, has played strong lately and with a win over Kennewick tonight has a good chance of advancing to the postseason.
Southridge has to travel to West Valley on Saturday, but Kennewick is at Eastmont. The Suns won the first meeting with the Lions.
CWAC 2A
The CWAC has another week of play left in the regular season, but there are some big games this weekend.
East Valley, Wapato and Ephrata have clinched playoff spots. Toppenish, Grandview and Prosser are all on the brink.
The Greyhounds host Toppenish tonight and are at Wapato on Saturday. Grandview needs a split to keep distance between it and Selah.
1A SCAC East
Connell and Kiona-Benton have clinched playoff spots with one league loss each. The Eagles host Mabton at 5:45 p.m. today in their final regular-season game. The Bears play today, Saturday and Monday, needing wins in all three and a Connell loss tonight to earn the league title.
With only the top four moving on, time is running out for Columbia-Burbank. The Coyotes trail River View and Mabton by two games with two to play.
Southeast 2B
Asotin and DeSales have locked up playoff berths, rolling along with just one loss in league each.
Regular-season play won't wrap up until Feb. 11, with seeding up in the air.
Southeast 1B
Colton has all but clinched the regular season title, as the defending state champions are again undefeated and have walloped Rosalia -- the second-place team -- twice this season.
Tekoa-Oakesdale, St. John-Endicott and Garfield-Palouse have also clinched district tournament spots. Pomeroy needs one win or one LaCrosse-Washtucna loss this weekend to clinch the final playoff spot.
