February weather should be near normal in the Tri-Cities, according to the National Weather Service.

Normal highs and lows for the Tri-Cities as measured in Kennewick during February are 47.9 and 29.6 degrees. Normal precipitation is 0.78 inch.

No daily high or low temperature records were set at Hanford in January, according to data from the Hanford Meteorological Station, which keeps records back to 1945.

But Tri-City kids likely remember the weather last month for the storm that closed schools.

The year started with 5.1 inches of snow in January, according to the weather service. It put the greatest depth of snow on the ground at 4 inches Jan. 20, based on measurements collected in Kennewick.

Hanford had 9.3 inches of snow for the month, with 4.4 inches Jan. 18 and 4.3 inches the next day, according to data from the Hanford Meteorological Station.

Precipitation was 0.14 inch below normal for the month in the Tri-Cities at 0.94 inch. Hanford had 1.09 inches.

For the water year, which begins in October, precipitation has totaled 1.64 inches in the Tri-Cities, which is 2.17 inches below normal.

Temperatures in the Tri-Cities in January averaged a half-degree above the normal of 35.5 degrees, despite a majority of days with low temperatures that fell below normal. High temperatures averaged 46 degrees, which was 4.5 degrees above normal, and low temperatures averaged 26.1 degrees, which was 3.4 degrees below normal.

The highest temperature for the Tri-Cities was 60 degrees on the last two days of the month. The low was 15 degrees Jan. 12 and 13. Just one day, Jan. 20, had a high temperature that fell below freezing.

The peak wind gust in the Tri-Cities was 48 mph on Jan. 17. At Hanford it was 49 mph on Jan. 25.
