WALLA WALLA -- Six candidates for Walla Walla's police and fire chiefs had a chance to "meet and greet" the public Thursday.
The finalists to be the city's top cop are: Scott Bieber, a commander with the Vancouver Police Department; Robert Torgerson, chief of the Aberdeen Police Department; and Greg Anderson, a captain with the Salt River Police Department in Arizona.
Police Chief Chuck Fulton is retiring at the end of March after 28 1/2 years leading the department.
Finalists to lead the fire department are: Bob Yancey, who has been the department's interim chief since Chief Terry Thomas retired last year; Ron Anders, chief of the Meridian (Idaho) Fire Department; and Greg Godfrey, a battalion chief with the Glendale (Calif.) Fire Department.
The candidates have been in town this week getting a tour of the community and participating in interviews with officials and community members, the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reported.
Candidates are expected to have second interviews today with the city manager and a panel of community members.
