I read Michael Scrimsher's letter (Jan. 18) condemning Gregoire and her position on same-sex marriage with disappointment. I could not be prouder of our governor, as her position shows a remarkable and commendable transition over the past two terms.
Scrimsher continues the parlor game conservatives seem to enjoy of comparing gay marriage with things that have nothing to do with gay marriage. The marriage between two loving, consenting adults cannot be compared with deleterious practices involving pedophiles, bigamists and zoophiles. The argument that same-sex marriage is an endorsement of these practices is specious. One might as well argue that same-sex marriage is an endorsement of marriage to the B Reactor, since that would be equally relevant.
Scrimsher seems to be so concerned with providing society a "long-term net benefit," perhaps he should stop wasting time campaigning against gay marriage. With our economy on the brink and one out five children living below the poverty line, is the greatest threat facing our nation the two mothers of my roommate at Harvard?
