Finley levy: Yes

As a kid who grew up in Finley, I not only got to raise animals and work on my parents' farm, but got a high quality education that rivaled my peers and allowed me to succeed while attending University of Southern California.

Finley is asking voters to approve their replacement levy request to continue numerous operations that many take for granted: technology, traveling expenses, accelerated learning, and basic maintenance and operation expenses. The money from this levy will account for 20 percent of the district's budget, with 5 percent more as matching levy equalization funds. Last year Finley had to actually return funds mid-year to the state since these equalization funds are annual targets for budget cuts. Unfortunately it's our kids that are left holding the short straw. Although this year's levy request is a modest increase when coupled with the previous construction bond dropping off, there is still a decrease in overall taxes.

Finley's average class size remains in the low 20s, kindergarten classes are full day, and even this year band was reintroduced for students. Finley has shown that they are improving their educational programs and being fiscally responsible in the process.

Please vote yes on the Finley replacement levy this Valentine's Day.
