YAKIMA — A Yakima man was injured on State Route 24 west of Othello Tuesday night after he swerved to avoid an animal in the road.

Christopher J. Mendoza, 18, was driving eastbound 22 miles west of Othello when the State Patrol says he swerved his 2000 Chevrolet Lumina off the road to avoid an undisclosed animal, which caused the car to roll and land on its wheels on the eastbound shoulder.

Mendoza was wearing a seat belt and police said no drugs or alcohol were involved, but he was charged with driving with his wheels off the roadway, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

A call for more information on the accident was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.
