A Yakima man rolled his car Tuesday night after he swerved to avoid an animal on Highway 24, about 22 miles west of Othello, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Christopher J. Mendoza, 18, of Yakima, was driving his 2000 Chevrolet Lumina eastbound at 7:10 p.m when he swerved, lost control, rolled. The car came to a rest on its wheels on the eastbound shoulder of the highway, the state patrol said.

Mendoza was injured and taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. No information was available on his condition. His car was totaled.

The state patrol cited Mendoza for driving with his wheels off the road.
