The Hanford fans were getting a little restless Monday night.
Here it was senior night and the final home wrestling dual, and Falcons faithful had not had much to cheer about yet.
Oh, their boys were up by eight points on the scoreboard and on their way to a 45-25 win over Kamiakin. But with a trio of Braves forfeits in Hanford's wheelhouse weights up top and another at 113, the Falcons had won just one of the six matches decided on the mat.
And then Brennan Rains and Colton DeLeon put on a show. Rains, Hanford's junior 145-pounder, and his freshman counterpart needed three overtimes to decide their match, a 5-4 win for the Falcons.
"It was good for the dual," said Hanford coach Dom Duncan. "Things were getting slow for awhile, especially for the Hanford fans."
The two ended regulation knotted at 2-all, and neither scored during a one-minute overtime period. The two traded escapes during the second overtime -- two 30-second stretches where each wrestler gets a chance to start down in the referee's position. The third overtime is another 30-second run from the referee's position, with the down wrestler needing to escape to win.
"They chose down and we road him out," Duncan said. "Any time you got 30 seconds to hold a guy is tough to do."
The Falcons went on to get pins from Eric Mata at 152 and Jeff Anheier at 160 before the final match, pitting state veterans Sisto Santana Pina of Kamiakin and Joe Traverso. Pina won a close 6-4 decision.
The Braves dominated the lighter weights, getting pins from Tyler Almaguer (106) and Adrian Barajas (138) and a major decision from Cesar Castillo (120).
