It's sad no one has apprehended the two men who shot one of the pair of bald eagles Nov. 23 in Finley, collected body and feathers and loaded their boat in back of a silver Chevy pickup.
Bald eagles mate for life. Eagles are still on the endangered list. They are protected by federal and state laws. The 1940 Bald Eagle Protection Act "prohibits the take, possession, sale, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase, transport, export or import, of any bald eagle, alive or dead, including any part, nest or egg, unless allowed by permit. Take includes: pursue, shoot at, poison, wound, sicken, capture, trap, collect, molest or disturb. A $5,000 fine and/or one year imprisonment is imposed."
I watch the eagle nest in Decorah, Iowa on Ustream Raptor Research. The website is watched worldwide by eagle fans who learn so much about how the birds raise their young, feed, teach, etc.
I hope someone turns in these two men. I would happily donate to a fund for their arrest and conviction.
