The Doonesbury on Jan. 8 attacking Newt Gingrich did not belong with any newspaper's comic strips. It was not funny. It was not entertaining. Even if viewed as a political cartoon, it was exceedingly vicious and vile.
Doonesbury's content has not been appropriate as a comic strip for a very long time. If the Herald believes Doonesbury should be in the paper, then please put it in a more appropriate section, with editorials or commentaries.
Personally, I feel that something with content as vicious as the Jan. 8 strip should have never been published. The Herald's own guidance for letters to the editors says it will not publish letters if they defame an individual. Why then was this published?
