SUNNYSIDE -- Matt Mendenhall had 19 points for Southridge, Israel Manzo had a game-high 21 points for host Sunnyside and the Suns edged the Grizzlies in a CBBN 4A nailbiter on Monday, making up Friday's tabled matchup.
The last five minutes were a back-and-forth battle. The Suns staked a five-point edge with 2 1/2 minutes remaining and held on by the skin of their teeth for the win as the Grizzlies failed a final-second shot opportunity.
"Our team came together tonight," said Southridge coach Jason DeVere, who credited his team's superior rebound performance -- a 35-23 edge over the Griz -- as one of the deciding factors.
"We struggled last couple of weeks and it was nice to see our guys play well together. Mendenhall stepped up as captain. It was a good win for our guys."
