In response to the Dec. 30 editorial regarding Franklin County Clerk Mike Killian.

I was shocked and dismayed that Mike was deployed to Kuwait, because Mike is my employer. Mike is a great leader and I have learned much in the six years I have worked for the clerk's office under Mike.

He is a great organizer and has a good head for what needs to be done and how to get it done. He cares about the people of Franklin County as much as he cares about service to his country.

Our office will continue to run well without Mike being present in person, because we are in constant contact with him via the communication technology that's available in this electronic age. Cherryl Jones is Mike's chief deputy clerk, and with the direction and leadership instilled by Mike, she is doing well.

There are not many people who can do the job Mr. Killian is doing as clerk. The people of Franklin County can rest assured they have an elected official who will work for them while he is away serving his country.
