Swimming left out in the cold

With one week until the end of the regular season, several area boys swimming teams find themselves in a time crunch because of the weather.

Richland and Hanford were scheduled to compete Saturday at Wenatchee, but freezing rain and snow caused the meet to be called off.

Richland and Hanford are slated to wrap up their regular season next Saturday against fellow 5-0 team Walla Walla, but now they must figure out what to do about the Wenatchee meet. The teams don't have school Monday, and finals are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Plus, "we haven't practiced since Tuesday," Richland/Hanford coach Kathy Piper said.

Walla Walla and West Valley also were supposed to swim this week, but that meet was canceled.
