Editorial off base

The editorial about Mike Killian (Opinion, Dec. 30) was way off base. As you admitted, it does fly in the face of Title 38 of the U.S. Code in regard to military service and rights of employment during such service.

However, your opinion also registers to any employer or voter who would potentially take your misguided view and discriminate against anyone in the same position as Mr. Killian.

Your opinion taken at its most basic concept says to anyone in the position of leadership or otherwise to quit or resign their position if called to military service for our country. Really, is that what you meant to convey?

Bill Letourneau, Richland

Editor's note: Our editorial questioned whether Franklin County Clerk Mike Killian could satisfy the requirements of his election position while deployed for up to a year in Kuwait. Read it online at tinyurl.com/TCH-Killian.
