Michael "Hawkeye" Herman is no stranger to Tri-City music fans.

The Medford, Ore., musician has performed here plenty during his 40-year career.

His concerts are usually packed, and he rarely misses the chance to perform at the annual Tumbleweed Music Festival.

Herman once again brings his wide range of music styles -- mostly acoustic blues -- to the Tri-Cities on Jan. 21 at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasco. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Admission is $11 adults, $9 students and seniors. Cost is $1 more at the door. Tickets at The Octopus' Garden in Richland or Tri-City Bookworm stores.

Opening the concert will be Mid-Columbia musician "Walla Walla" Paul Knight.

Herman also will conduct a blues guitar workshop at 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at the home of Micki Perry. Call Perry for directions and to register at 783-9937 or 528-2215. Cost for the all-ages workshop is $20.

As a music educator, Herman has taken his love of blues into classrooms from preschool through college, Perry said.

His music also has been included in video documentaries and theatrical productions, she added.

Herman plays slide mandolin along with six- and 12-string guitars, and his playlist runs from ballads to swing and the blues.

In 1998, the Blues Foundation, based in Memphis, awarded Herman its Keeping the Blues Alive achievement award for education.
