People who let a dog sit on my flag should be banished from the U.S. and the editors who selected the photo for publication should be fired. Period! That is worse than things the insensitive Walla Walla Union-Bulletin has published. I do not understand how anyone that insensitive could even claim to be an American citizen and have the guts to live in this country and enjoy its privileges.

WALLA WALLA -- A man involved in a shooting at Fort Walla Walla Park last month will not face criminal charges.
Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Nagle said Monday he is declining to file assault charges against Tyler B. Larson, 22, of College Place, "because the prosecution would be unable to prove the absence of self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt."
According to Walla Walla Police, Larson shot Terry E. Bickford, 59, of Walla Walla, in the right thigh with a handgun on the evening of Oct. 16 after the two men left the dog park.

Why would you publish in Sunday's edition such an offensive pet photo showing an American flag on the floor with a dog sitting on it? It's bad enough that the dog's owners are so unpatriotic as to put the flag there in the first place, but the Herald compounded their stupid action by showing a dog sitting on it.
As a combat veteran of World War II, I am greatly offended and I would urge other veterans to speak to the desecration of our flag. You owe us an apology. If the dog's owners can read, read this: U S Code Title 36, Chapter 10, Section 176, paragraph b: "The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water or merchandise." Section 176, paragraph d: "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery."
Further, your editors need education also to the proper display of our flag.
