Herald wrong on Killian

I couldn't believe that the Herald published the editorial on Dec. 30, entitled, "Two jobs one too many for Franklin County Clerk."

In the editorial, the editorial board hints that Franklin County Clerk Mike Killian is taking a vacation to Kuwait and irresponsibly leaving the citizens of Franklin County without a county clerk. How bizarre.

There are people sacrificing their lives for our country, leaving spouses and children, and coming back with physical and emotional disabilities. Certainly Franklin County can survive by appointing a temporary county clerk in his absence.

Mike Killian and his staff have created an efficient and service oriented office. I have been impressed with how helpful and understanding the whole staff is. I am sure that we can somehow survive, as he serves our country. The herald should be ashamed for publishing this editorial.

Editor's note: The Herald editorial board isn't opposed to Killian's service in Kuwait or having someone else perform his duties while he is gone. Our editorial questioned whether he could simultaneously satisfy the requirements of both jobs. Read it online at tinyurl.com/TCH-Killian
