It was annoying to find many businesses and public offices closed Jan. 2. While both reserve the right to choose their own holiday hours, I consider it inappropriate for public offices to be nonaccessible on a business day unrelated to the New Year holiday.

For both kinds of establishments, I found it poor timing and even lazy to take an extra day off at the end of an unpredictable, holiday business week. The new year has begun, the holidays are over, and now life is proceeding onward. For those who did not get the memo, consider this your extra copy.
