Fast Focus: Initiative too restrictive

I applaud the efforts of Initiative 502 to legalize cannabis for adults in Washington state, however they have one flaw in it, the five nanogram limit for impairment. The Department of Defense of our great country has set a standard of 15 nanograms per milliliter of blood, or 3 times the amount proposed by I-502. That is a level for confirmation, or a positive result from a urinalysis.

Consider that every plant that grows on our planet has cannabiniods in it, and cannabis has the highest concentration of them. Hence, they have a baseline set above zero to test positive for.

Humans have an endo-cannabinoid system in our bodies that responds to cannabinoids. If it can't derive them from outside sources, our brains will produce some on their own. Hence the concentrated oil taken from this plant has the scientific potential to create homeostasis throughout the human body, creating a curative effect on those riddled with disease, cancer or illness.

If our Legislature declines to act on I-502, I for one will be voting on it next November.
