FEDERAL WAY -- The Kentridge Invitational in Federal Way draws boys swimming talent from all over Washington, as well from other states.

Omaha Creighton Prep, which won the meet in 2008, will be one of the more than 30 teams to compete today at the King County Aquatic Center.

"They've got pretty much the top seed in most of the events, but they wanted to come and swim in this pool," said Richland/Hanford coach Kathy Piper.

Piper's teams have some worthy challengers, including Richland's Nick Connors, seeded second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minute, 55 seconds.

"His best is about 4:42," Piper said. "He might be able to win. I think he'll go after it (today)."

Hanford's Will Wertz is the No. 5 seed in the 100 free and 200 free, and teammate BJ Deatherage is seeded fifth by points in diving.

Prosser also will have a contingent in Federal Way, but Walla Walla will not trek across the pass this weekend. Instead, it will compete at home today against Eisenhower and Davis.

The Blue Devils were set to travel to the Kentridge Invite each of the last four years, but they only made one of those because of weather.

"It's a hard meet for us to get to," said coach Katharine Curles, who decided in October that her team would not go.
