Ingrid Stein scored 12 points, none bigger than the basket with 6 seconds left in overtime to lead the Southridge Suns to a surprising 52-51 win over the visiting Kennewick Lions on Friday night.

The Suns posted just their second win of the season while improving to 2-4 in the CBBN 3A. Kennewick, meanwhile, fell into a second-place tie with Eastmont at 4-2.

"We've played Hanford tough and then faded at end," said Southridge coach Scott Stiles. "We played Sunnyside tough for three quarters. We're getting a little bit better."

Stein's basket, a layup coming off a feed from Kassedy Taylor, foiled the heroics of Janey Valerio.

The Kennewick point guard canned a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to put the Lions up by 1. That after hitting a tying 3 at the end of regulation.

"I'll tell you what, Kennewick played hard," Stiles said. "We're very fortunate to get a win here. Our girls, they played all four quarters plus. It was a battle. Both teams battled."

Valerio finished with nine points. Angelique Whistocken led the Lions with 14 points, and Panisesi Taimani added eight points and 15 boards.
