"Hard Knocks," Washington State-style?

That might seem like a strange combination, but not when you think about the new man in charge, Mike Leach, and his no-nonsense attitude toward coaching football.

Leach's friend, actor/"Friday Night Lights" executive producer Peter Berg, wants to do a documentary series about Leach. The project would stretch through the first or second game of the Cougars' season, according to Broadcasting and Cable, and it sounds as if Berg will pitch the idea to HBO.

I don't know how scintillating the Cougar players will be on camera — their play certainly hasn't attracted a lot of fans, so I'm hoping they're more interesting off the field. Nonetheless, the series probably would draw a sizable viewership given Leach's personality. It's not enough for me to upgrade my cable package, but I'll check out the DVD or the YouTube clips.
