* 1993 -- Richland coach John Mecham moved 168-pounder Scott Surplus to 190, where he posted an easy 21-3 victory over Jason Reed as the Bombers shut the door on Davis' undefeated (3-0) Big Nine season with a 39-22 win.

* 1978 -- Try as it might, the Columbia Basin College men's basketball team could not avoid its 13th consecutive loss, falling to Big Bend 73-56. Freshman Cliff Cole hit a 3-pointer to pull the Hawks within four with 6:11 remaining, but Big Bend took action on the boards and pulled away. Ricky Hamilton finished with a game-high 33 points -- nearly double his average -- to lead Big Bend.
