Semi accident blocks part of Pasco highway

PASCO — A semi-truck slid on its side across part of Highway 397 in Pasco after the driver lost control while going too fast on a curve, the Washington State Patrol said.

The crash occurred at 10:45 a.m. near James Street. It blocked part of the northbound lanes while troopers investigated.

Randall D. Hofer, 44, of Red Deer, Alberta, was treated at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco.

Troopers said Hofer was driving too fast.

Man allegedly tries to sell pot outside courthouse

A 22-year-old Grand Coulee man learned Tuesday that the best place to try to sell marijuana is not outside the Grant County Courthouse.

Grant County sheriff's deputies got a call from citizens at 1:30 p.m. reporting that a man wearing a red coat and black baseball cap was approaching people on the front lawn of the courthouse asking if they wanted to buy marijuana, authorities said.

Deputies found Andrew Allen Kramer standing on the lawn of the courthouse and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from him.

Kramer was detained and found with 20.5 grams of portioned and packaged marijuana in his pockets.

Kramer was arrested, cited for possessing marijuana and released.

"This one speaks for itself," Sheriff Tom Jones said.

Police arrest Sunnyside man wanted for attempted murder

A Sunnyside man wanted for attempted murder was arrested in Yakima thanks to a tipster.

Sunnyside police detectives, working with Yakima police, found Manuel Angel Torres after they got a tip about where he was, police said.

Torres, 29, was found hiding under a bed in a house in the 5200 block of Nob Hill Boulevard, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported.

Torres had been sought for attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife Sunday night in Sunnyside. The former couple have a 2-year-old child together, and police said Torres has a history of escalating domestic violence against the victim.

The 25-year-old was able to drive herself to the hospital after the attack.

Police identify victim in Hermiston shooting

The victim in a shooting Monday at a Hermiston mini mart was identified Tuesday as Salvador Valencia, 22, of Hermiston.

Valencia was killed Monday afternoon at the Gotta Stop Mini Mart, 1580 W. Highland Ave.

Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said an autopsy was expected to be done Tuesday afternoon in Portland.

"There are still a few people who our detectives would like to speak with," he told the East Oregonian. "We're still trying to identify a couple of individuals that were there at the incident."

Multiple gunshots were fired during the shooting, police officials said.

Store manager Shelly Warren told the East Oregonian she heard a gunshot and later watched the incident on surveillance video. It showed one man bolt from two other men in the parking lot. As he tried to drive away in a Chevrolet Suburban, he was shot through a window, she said.
