A memorial to longtime Tri-Cities Airport Director Jim Morasch will hang in the airport's terminal for years to come.

The Port of Pasco will unveil a bronze plaque honoring Morasch at 1:30 p.m. today at the terminal building, 3601 N. 20th Ave., Pasco.

Morasch was injured in a car crash Jan. 25 and died of his injuries Feb. 4.

The plaque honoring Morasch and his 31 years of services to the port will hang in a prominent location near the building's main staircase near the clock, where people in the foyer can see it, said Ron Foraker, Tri-Cities Airport director.

The 18-by-24-inch plaque includes statements about Morasch's contributions to the community.

Port commissioners decided on the recognition after receiving a number of suggestions from residents, he said.

"It's just in recognition of Jim's service to the community and the port and what he did for us," Foraker said.

Morasch, who started at the Tri-Cities Airport in 1980, helped the airport meet the growing needs of travelers while volunteering on community boards, including Kadlec Health System and Kadlec Regional Medical Center.

He also was involved in airports at a national level, Foraker said. Morasch held various offices, including chairman, with the American Association of Airport Executives.

The plaque was made possible because of community and business donations. The event is open to the public.
