A Umatilla man wanted in Colorado on attempted murder charges was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to steal $10 in beer and other items from a Hermiston store.
Steven Arreguin Grimaldo, 20, had several warrants out for his arrest, including warrants from Greeley, Colo., on attempted murder and assaulting a police officer, said Jason Edmiston, Hermiston's acting police chief.
Grimaldo and Elijio Antonio Mendoza, 25, of Umatilla, were arrested by Hermiston police after they were called to Fiesta Foods around 2:30 p.m. about a dispute in the parking lot.
When officers arrived, they learned Grimaldo and Mendoza had tried to steal items from the store and resisted being detained when store security tried to stop them, Edmiston said.
Mendoza was booked into the Umatilla County jail on suspicion of third-degree robbery and third-degree theft.
Grimaldo, who initially gave a fake name to police, was jailed on his warrants and suspicion of third-degree robbery, third-degree theft and providing false information to a police officer.
