A shoplifter at the Columbia Center mall who tried to outrun police was shocked with a Taser gun while trying to get back inside the mall, authorities said.
Kennewick police were called to the mall at 7 p.m. Wednesday after store security officers at Macy's reported they had a pair of shoplifters in the store, said Sgt. Ken Lattin.
Martin E. Maher, 36, and Ofelia L. Ramirez, 21, both of Hermiston, took off running out of the store, but store security officers were able to catch Ramirez and turn her over to police.
Maher tried to run back inside the mall, but he was stopped after being shocked by a Taser, Lattin said.
Officers learned additional stolen property already had been put into their vehicle, which was found in the Macy's parking lot, he said.
The car was impounded to be searched.
Maher was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of retail theft with extenuating circumstances and resisting arrest.
Ramirez was jailed on suspicion of retail theft with extenuating circumstances, possessing meth and marijuana and an outstanding warrant.
