Sunnyside wrestlers clean up at Winter Cup

RICHLAND — Sunnyside won three individual titles and carried away the team crown as well Wednesday at the Hanford Winter Cup.

Isaac Guerrero at 138 pounds, Isidro Ramirez at 145 and Austin Carman at 220 won their respective weights for the Grizzlies, who finished 17 points ahead of East Valley (Spokane).

Hanford finshed fourth with 123 points; Southridge sixth with 113.5 and Richland eighth with 98. Grandview was ninth with 75.

Guerrero won a high-scoring final against Mount Spokane’s Sam Wilkes 17-12. Ramirez finished his championship run with a first-period pin of Richland’s Adam Jones, and Carman capped his daylong tourney with a second-period pin of West Valley’s Robert Koch.

Three other Sunnyside wrestlers — Homer Romero at 113, Santos Guerrero at 120 and Nathan Gnozalez at 132 — finished second.

Hanford did not win any individual titles but got runner-up finishes from Joe Traverso at 170 and Casey Enderlin at 182.

Southridge’s Connor Rosane (160) and Kevin Del-Angel (182) delivered titles, Del-Angel pinning Enderlin midway through the second period of their final.

Richland’s Josh Andrews pinned Guerrero for the title at 120. Fidel Medina at 106 and David Castaneda at 126 won titles for Grandview. Castaneda topped Richland’s Justin Webb 14-7 in the final.

River View’s Kyle Hall finished second at 285, getting pinned by Justin Wilkins of West Valley.
