A 37-year-old Kennewick man was arrested early Tuesday after reportedly holding his ex-wife against her will and assaulting her.

Kennewick police responded at 1:40 a.m. to a home in the 4600 block of West Seventh Avenue after the woman called 911, police said.

When officers arrived, they contacted Eriberto Gutierrez, who allegedly was intoxicated and became argumentative when questioned.

Gutierrez's ex-wife told police that she had gone to his home to visit him earlier that evening and he started yelling at her about their past relationship, police said.

During the argument, he allegedly stopped her from leaving, pulled her back into the house, then grabbed her by the throat and threw her down.

When officers attempted to arrest Gutierrez, he refused to cooperate and tried to run away, police said. After a brief struggle, officers were able to handcuff him and put him in a patrol car.

Gutierrez was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest.
