A 17-year-old girl was taken to a Richland hospital Tuesday night for a reported head injury after being hit by a pickup while walking on Jacobs Road.
The girls name was not available from Benton County sheriffs deputies at the scene.
The seriousness of her injuries is not known and she did lose consciousness, but Deputy Craig Cole told the Herald the girl was conscious, alert and talking to people before an ambulance took her to Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Deputies were called just before 5 p.m. for reports of the crash on Jacobs, about a half mile up from the Webber Canyon Road intersection along the eastbound side of Interstate 82.
Three teens between 15 and 17 were walking west on Jacobs when a truck came up from behind heading in the same direction, according to Cole. The trio split up and tried to run off the road when they saw the truck coming, but the one teen couldnt get out of the way fast enough, Cole said.
The name of the late-model pickup driver was not released. He was not cited as of Tuesday night.
