A 44-year-old Kennewick man was jailed after allegedly beating his girlfriend when she refused to hand over a check she received.

Kennewick police were called to investigate the assault after the woman went to the hospital for treatment, Sgt. Ken Lattin said.

Officers learned that the assault occurred at the Blue Bridge Motel where the woman and Michael Ricardo King had been staying, Lattin said.

When the victim refused to give King her check, he wouldn't let her leave and reportedly knocked her on the ground and repeatedly kicked her, including in the face.

Officers also learned there is a no-contact order from King County that bars King from having contact with the woman, Lattin said.

King was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault, violating a domestic-violence court order and four warrants.
