A Sunnyside man was killed and five others were hurt when the car they were in spun off a road in Sunnyside early Sunday and rolled over, the Washington State Patrol said.
The driver of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu is being sought after he left the crash scene before authorities arrived, troopers said.
The 3:30 a.m. wreck in the 3600 block of East Factory Road killed 20-year-old Nicholas Alfredo Marez after he was thrown from the car, troopers said.
It's not known if any of the six passengers in the car -- all from Sunnyside -- were wearing seat belts.
Ivan Chiprez, 21, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, troopers said.
Maria Castro, 18, and two other girls, ages 14 and 16, were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital, while a fourth passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was treated at Prosser Memorial Hospital.
The names of the teens were not released.
According to troopers, the car they were in was going west on Factory Road when the driver drifted onto the westbound shoulder.
The driver overcorrected to the left, causing the Malibu to go across both lanes and start spinning. The car then went off the eastbound shoulder and rolled over, troopers said.
Speed is said to be a factor. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were involved.
