Mid-Columbia prominent on AP all-state football team

December 17, 2011

A trio of Chiawana players and one from Kamiakin were named to first teams when The Associated Press released its all-state football team Friday.

Meanwhile, Connell star Matt Hadley capped his second state championship season in three years with a third consecutive 1A player of the year award.

Offensive lineman Gates Michel, linebacker Jordan Downing and defensive back Miquiyah Zamora were selected to the 4A first team for the Riverhawks.

Kamiakin’s Joe Hunt was a 3A first-team pick at defensive line. He was joined by all-purpose player Israel Manzo of Sunnyside.

The Braves added Zach Umemoto as an honorable mention running back. Kennewick running back Grant Woods also was honorable mention.

In the 2A ranks, Prosser landed two players on the first team: receiver Danny Raap and defensive back Isaac Anderson. Othello DB Juston Lind also was named first team. Lind and Raap are juniors.

Hadley, a running back, was one of five first-team picks from Connell. Receiver Kade Eppich, offensive lineman Kennan VanHollebeke, defensive lineman Tyson Brook and linebacker Chandler Salisbury round out the Eagles’ picks.

Waitsburg-Prescott quarterback Zach Bartlow earned the 2B player of the year after guiding the Cardinals to a state title. He’s joined by teammates Dalton Estes (WR), Cadman Donovan (O-line) and Dustin Wooderchak (LB) on the first team.

In the eight-man ranks, Tyler Morris of Liberty Christian was named first team at defensive back, with Touchet’s Dan Can at defensive line.
