Letter misrepresented

I am alarmed by Dale Brown's letter ("Cameras banned" Nov. 25) in which he misrepresents what occurred at the Middle East forum at Washington State University Tri-Cities. He slams "some of the Muslims (who) made a stink about our camera's presence."

To clarify: "Muslims" did not ban the cameras. As moderator, I banned the cameras. WSU respects the right of presenters to not be recorded, as was the case here. When Brown was told he couldn't record, he asked "Don't you want press coverage?" I asked if he was a member of the press. He said, "Yes," so I asked to see his press credentials at which point he mumbled inaudibly and sat down.

Brown apparently considers himself a journalist because of the videos he has posted on youtube.com (ID: apologiamixer) which reveal a not-so-subtle attack on any non-Judeo/Christian belief, especially Islam.

Brown promotes paranoia toward Muslims. Apparently, he cannot differentiate between "Islamists" (who want Islam to rule the world) and the vast majority of Muslims who only want peace. In his letter, Brown attacked our presenter, Imam Ziada, for promoting "harmony among . . . religions." Given his fear of Muslims trying to dominate the world, I would think Brown might want to say "Thanks, Dr. Ziada!" instead of chastising him for being a man of peace.
