RICHLAND A Richland man has been arrested on suspicion of forgery and identification theft after he allegedly used a counterfeit check to buy a gift card from a Les Schwab store.
Justin Wilkinson, 33, of Richland, and Stephanie Vinson, 40, of Richland, reportedly used the phony check at the tire store on Stevens Drive. The gift card they purchased was used to buy tires.
Richlands Street Crimes Unit contacted Wilkinson and Vinson at Wilkinson's Richland apartment. They reportedly discovered Wilkinson and Vinson engaged in producing counterfeit checks, according to a Richland Police Department press release.
Officers detained the two and applied for a search warrant, which resulted in the recovery of counterfeit checks (drawn on personal accounts), computers and multiple copies of identities that had been stolen, police reported.
Prosecutors are reviewing Vinsons involvement, according to police. She has not been charged.
