RICHLAND -- A last second-heave went awry as the Liberty Christian Patriots boys basketball team couldn't complete a rally Wednesday in a nonconference game in Richland.

River View escaped with a season-opening 48-47 victory. Liberty Christian pulled within the final score on a 3-pointer by Tyler Morris. The Patriots then fouled and the Panthers missed both free throws.

The ensuing full-court heave was off the mark, though.

"We fought back after a tough first half," Liberty Christian coach William Keck said. "The kids came out and played really good defense and made good improvements from (Tuesday's) jamboree."

River View -- Brown 4, Bartlett 2, Marshall 5, Scott 4, Tyutyunnik 4, Hand 7, Flores 9, Patterson 2, Brisbee 11.

Liberty Christian -- Tyler Koglin 4, Tyler Morris 8, Brandon Peterson 10, Mike Olsen 6, Evan Crawford 9, Reace Howard, Timmy Koglin 8, Jared Hoey 2.

River View 10 17 8 13 -- 48

Liberty Christian 9 11 11 16 -- 47

Highlights -- LC: Peterson 4 steals, Olsen 11 rebounds, 5 assists.
