RICHLAND -- A last second-heave went awry as the Liberty Christian Patriots boys basketball team couldn't complete a rally Wednesday in a nonconference game in Richland.
River View escaped with a season-opening 48-47 victory. Liberty Christian pulled within the final score on a 3-pointer by Tyler Morris. The Patriots then fouled and the Panthers missed both free throws.
The ensuing full-court heave was off the mark, though.
"We fought back after a tough first half," Liberty Christian coach William Keck said. "The kids came out and played really good defense and made good improvements from (Tuesday's) jamboree."
