Style editor to offer fashion tips at Apricot Lane in mall

Any woman who ever wished for some style advice about fitting her body type and price range will have the chance to ask a national expert Saturday.

Lilliana Vazquez, founder and editor of The CheapChica's Guide to Style, will visit Apricot Lane in Kennewick's Columbia Center mall from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Vazquez, a lifestyle correspondent for New York LIVE on NBC New York, will answer questions, offer tips and help with apparel and accessories selection for those who visit the locally-owned clothing boutique.

Vazquez is knowledgeable about fashion and down to earth, said Jen Ackerman, one of Apricot Lane's owners.

And Ackerman, the store's buyer, said Vazquez is on the lookout for great deals, which is what Apricot Lane hopes to offer -- designer-inspired fashion at an affordable price.

Vazquez said she loves being asked style questions about topics such as what would be appropriate for a specific event.

There's plenty of fashion advice in magazines, said Vazquez, a regular contributor to the Nate Berkus Show and TBS' Movie and a Makeover.

But it's just not the type of fashion that's accessible to most women, she said.

"Either you can't afford them or you can't wear them," she said.

That's part of why Vazquez started The CheapChica's Guide to Style blog, which reaches more than 250,000 women nationwide each month, and why her approach is to find affordable and wearable clothing that fits into women's lifestyles.

One of the positive attributes of Apricot Lane is that it is a "mother-daughter store" that has clothing for women of all age ranges, Vazquez said.

Vazquez said it can be overwhelming to walk into a boutique with as much variety in clothes and price points as Apricot Lane. That's why she will pull 10 to 15 of her fashion picks that she feels are trendy and affordable onto a rack on Saturday.

"You walk into the store; it will be the first thing you see," she said.

Every good wardrobe needs good basics, Vazquez said. That's why she'll likely pull jeans onto the rack, whether it is a classic bootcut or black skinny jeans.

Vazquez also will devote about 30 minutes to a fashion makeover for the woman on Saturday who wins an in-store drawing.

Vazquez's visit will be like a party, with refreshments and promotions, Ackerman said. And Apricot Lane is offering a 25 percent off sale all day.

Ackerman said about 100 people can comfortably fit in the store at one time.
