Two to three weeks, huh?

Washington State reportedly has a verbal agreement from Mike Leach to become the school's new head football coach. That came less than 24 hours after Paul Wulff's firing and athletic director Bill Moos' comment that it would take two to three weeks to find his replacement.

Sure, we've known for days that Leach was the purported front-runner to take over at WSU, and Moos acknowledged that as fact Tuesday after announcing Wulff's exit. But how shady is it to get a five-year agreement supposedly locked up when Wulff's seat hasn't even cooled off? Makes you wonder whether Wulff knew there was a specific successor in line when he got the ax, or if he got the same two-to-three-week timeline for a new coach.

What's startingly certain is that Wulff's parting shot — "I believe the innocence of Wazzu has been lost today" — is truer than the Coug fan base might have believed possible. There's no going back, especially once Leach signs on the dotted line.
