An uninformed voter is worse than not voting at all. In the recent general election, Wendy London received 5,448 votes! She left the area before her term was up and any informed voter was aware of this.
Don't just mark a ballot because you think it is your duty. Research the candidate before voting or don't vote at all. Just listening to other people's opinion (friends, family, co-workers, neighbors or the Herald editorial board) is not being informed.
Especially don't listen to the editorial board's opinion on anything. First, the Herald printed two articles on Loren Nichols then an entire editorial on him. Then, when they recommended candidates, they stated that Steve Young's opponent wasn't worth mentioning! He was OK to mention for the sake of sensationalism, but not when they didn't want to mention him.
Next, regarding the candidates they recommended for the Kennewick School Board (two were elected), they now are concerned these new board members might be too closely aligned to have diversity of opinions that could lead to healthy discussions and better-rounded decisions! You could say the same thing about two of the three incumbents elected for Kennewick City Council. Does the editorial board really think two men who have worked together 16 years can have diversity? Probably not.
Robert Crawford, Kennewick
