Expect strong winds today in the Tri-Cities.

The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories which are in effect until 4 p.m. today in the Tri-City area.

Forecasters say sustained south winds at 20 to 30 mph will whip through the area, with gusts of up to 45 mph and local gusts up to 55 mph. The Hanford area could see sustained wind speeds of 30 to 40 mph, gusting to 60 mph.

Forecasters caution drivers to be prepared for strong wind gusts and to watch for other drivers who may not be prepared for sudden cross winds.

It will remain very windy over a large area of eastern Washington and eastern Oregon. Winds are expected to diminish overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory has been issued for the Tri-Cities, Connell, Prosser, Bickleton, Goldendale, and the southern Blue Mountains of Oregon.
