Dustin Martin of Kennewick knows what it's like to have made bad choices. The former gang member and current night watchman for the Word of Faith Center in Kennewick is using his life experiences and talent to help young people avoid the same pitfalls of gangs, violence and drugs that befell him. Martin co-founded the Born Again Soldiers Fight Academy in Pasco in 2008 and trains nearly 30 members in the art of boxing and mixed martial arts called Tenth Planet Jiu Jitsu. Martin takes members to fights nearly every weekend and has seen the effect on some members who used to run with gangs. To be in Martin's academy, members have to abide by simple rules, forsake gang involvement, stay away from drugs and alcohol and keep good grades in school. To donate, sponsor or join call 378-2168.
