HERMISTON-- A friend of a man killed in a fatal Eastern Oregon shooting said the violence came after a party attracted people they didn't know and got out of control.
Hermiston police have arrested Jesus Carrillo Jr., 25, on a murder charge in the death Friday night of Heriberto Aparicio Garcia, 34.
A friend of Garcia recounted through an interpreter that the evening began when they invited young women to a party, the East Oregonian reported.
But Estamo Marcias, 30, said that up to a dozen uninvited men arrived as well, and after the party got rowdy, Garcia asked people to leave, got into a fight and was shot.
Marcias' description in Spanish was interpreted by Omar Barragan, 23, who was the third man living in the manufactured home in Hermiston, the newspaper said. Barragan said he was working that night and not at the party.
At the beginning, Marcias said, the roommates debated whether to continue the party and agreed to do so as long as things didn't get out of hand.
As the night stretched on, the uninvited revelers grew rowdy and troublesome, Marcias said, and Garcia decided it was time for them to leave.
"They didn't like that," Marcias said.
There was a fight, and then Garcia was shot from no more than 6 feet away, Marcias said. He died later at the hospital.
Barragan said Garcia was separated from his wife and has two daughters.
There are no other suspects besides Carrillo, District Attorney Dan Primus said, adding that the case will go before the grand jury this week.
