KENNEWICK -- The "game of the year" to end all "games of the year" -- at least until next year -- is close at hand, with Kamiakin (11-0) and Kennewick (10-1) meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lampson Stadium in the 3A state quarterfinals.
The winner not only receives a berth into the state semifinals, but will host the game.
That's the good news. The not-as-good news: The visitor will be the survivor of Bellevue-Lakes, two teams roundly regarded as the best in the state.
Othello, Prosser, Connell and Royal are making travel plans in the 2A and 1A playoffs -- times, dates and places still TBD.
In the 2B playoffs, Waitsburg-Prescott (11-0) will play Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (9-1) at noon Saturday at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco.
In the 1B ranks, Touchet (8-2) will play Almira/Coulee-Hartline (11-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Lions Field in Moses Lake.
