A Richland man with a valid arrest warrant allegedly tried to give police a fake name, but couldn't hide his true identity because it is tattooed on his shoulder.

Blake Edward Hendon, 25, pleaded innocent to second-degree identity theft, a felony, and making false or misleading statements to a public servant, a gross misdemeanor.

Pasco police were notified at 1:19 p.m. Oct. 28 that an off-duty Richland officer was behind Hendon, who was driving a Pontiac Sunfire.

The officer knew that Hendon had a warrant, and followed him to the 7-Eleven store at Road 44 and Court Street where Pasco police took over.

Hendon initially gave a fake name, which came back clear of any warrants, court documents said.

Officers then noticed that Hendon had his last name in a tattoo on his upper shoulder, and he later admitted it was his real name, documents said.

Hendon was arrested on the warrant and taken to a patrol car, where he was searched before being placed in the back seat.

That's when officers allegedly discovered a Chase debit card with a woman's name in his back pocket.

Hendon claimed it belonged to a friend of his and he was holding onto it for her, court documents said.

However, officers made contact with the card's owner, who said her car had been broken into in Kennewick about an hour earlier and the credit card stolen from her purse.

The card already had been used a couple of times, documents said.

The woman told police that didn't know Hendon.

His trial is scheduled to start Jan. 4.
