MEDICINE HAT, Alberta -- Justin Feser scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 4-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday before a crowd of 4,006 at The Arena.

"It was an excellent game," said Tri-City coach Jim Hiller. "I think the important part for our team is to understand what we've done and what we've had to do to win."

It was the second consecutive win for the Americans

(14-5-0-0, 28 points) over one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Tri-City beat Kootenay on Wednesday.

Riding a four-game win streak, the Americans will play at Lethbridge (3-16-0-1) tonight in the third of three games in the Central Division.

The Tigers (14-5-1-1, 30 points) held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, getting a pair of goals from Curtis Valk.

Patrick Holland sandwiched a goal between Valk's goals, and Malte Strmwall scored on the power play just 1:40 into the second period to tie the score at 2.

Mason Wilgosh gave the Americans a 3-2 lead at 7:02 of the third, but the Tigers came back less than two minutes later with a goal by Hunter Shinkaruk to make it 3-all.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout, where Shinkaruk scored first for the Tigers.

Brendan Shinnimin answered for Tri-City, then goalie Ty Rimmer denied league-leading scorer Emerson Etem, Valk and Reid Petryk.

Holland and Adam Hughes-man failed to score against MH goalie Tyler Bunz, but Feser was able to find on opening, clanking the puck off the corner of the iron and in the net.

The Americans were a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and finished 2-for-3 on the power play. They have gone from 20th to seventh on the man advantage in a span of three games, converting on six of 11 chances.

"It goes in streaks," Hiller said. "We had had enough chances that hadn't gone in. It's an important part of the game. On the road you have to have good special teams."
