Learning from Beka

12:00am on Nov 10, 2011

At 18, my granddaughter Beka Feth went to Malawi, Africa, with a church group. It started as a summer of fun and became a life's calling. She is in Malawi on her fourth trip, working in an orphanage for children up to age 2. At that time they must leave the orphanage.

The folks in Africa repeatedly ask her to come back. During one trip she met a young boy who was withdrawn, not talking or walking and near death. Beka took care of Wongani (read more online at Wonganishope.blogspot.com) and he began to thrive!

Beka and a nurse from Malawi felt the need for a facility where they could care for children up to 5. The government approved the project, and they now have the land and are working to obtain required permits.

Meanwhile Beka approached the father of Wongani (mother died of AIDS) for permission to begin adoption. He declined at first but later relented. The arduous adoption process is in the final stages and we are hopeful when Beka comes home in December, Wongani be with her!

At a time when so many kids are getting in trouble, and there is so much turmoil, it is nice to see a young lady giving her life to make other lives better.
