A 21-year-old Kennewick man was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly breaking into cars at an apartment complex.

Kennewick police were sent to the apartments at 601 S. Kent St. at 3 a.m. after getting a report about a car prowl in progress, said Sgt. Ken Lattin.

Officers found several cars had been rifled through.

A man, later identified as Joseph T. Gaylord, was then spotted leaving the area near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Kent Street.

Officers ran after Gaylord, and after a short chase found him hiding in some bushes, Lattin said.

Gaylord was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of vehicle prowling.

Officers still were investigating whether a second suspect was involved, Lattin said.
