Nancy and Gerald Sorensen

Nancy and Gerald Sorensen of Richland will celebrate 50 years of marriage Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Richland Stake Center, 1720 Thayer Drive in Richland.

They were married on Dec. 15, 1961 at the Los Angeles LDS Temple.

They have lived in the Mid-Columbia for 43 years.

Nancy has a degree from Brigham Young University in elementary education. She was substitute teacher in Tri-City schools. Nancy is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they served a mission in Norway, Oslo Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gerald's degree from Brigham Young University is in mechanical engineering. Gerald has worked for Southern California Edison Company in Los Angeles, Calif., Amphenol Space and Missile Systems in Chatsworth, Calif., Washington Public Power Supply System (now Energy Northwest) and Battelle. He retired from Washington Public Power in 1993 and from Battelle in 2008.

Gerald is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- serving many years as stake president and bishop. He served on the Richland School Board for 8 years. He serves on the Boy Scouts' Blue Mountain Council executive board and received the Silver Beaver award in 2009. He was one of the initial members of the Hanford Advisory Board.

They have seven children, Caryn (Jim) Redwine, Richland; Kristin (Jonathan) Hunt, Richland; Kraig (Stephanie) Sorensen, Kennewick; Ryan (Cheri) Sorensen, Kennewick; Rustin (Deeana) Sorensen, Niceville, Fla.; Steve (Rozann) Sorensen, Wickenburg, Ariz.; Alison (Jeff) Risenmay, Laveen, Ariz.

They have 33 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
