Another missing kitty feels like deja vu

It couldn’t be happening again! But this sense of reliving an experience was not my imagination or an anomaly of my memory.

As I stared at the flyer posted on my rural mailbox, I couldn’t help but recall a similar situation.

It has been slightly more than three years ago — Oct. 28 to be exact — when a cat named Miles wandered onto our property in Badger Canyon. The fall days were crisp, the nights even colder. The beautiful long-haired ragdoll cat lay in the golden leaves, soaking up the day’s final warmth.

I remember thinking that a lovely kitty like that surely couldn’t have been dumped by a pet owner, alone and unwanted in our countryside. So, I began to investigate.

A trip to the local vet revealed a chip and the information that brought Miles back to his Meadow Springs neighborhood — and to ecstatic owners Bob and Dana. Their precious feline had been missing for four long months, and they’d given up hope.

Later, word leaked out that an ornery cuss had bragged about ridding his immediate area of cats, ones that dared to cross his property line. Captured and then hauled away to the river or Badger Canyon, the defenseless pets were left to struggle against nature.

Fast forward to fall 2011 and once again a gorgeous long-haired kitty from the same Meadow Springs street is lost in Badger Canyon.

The paper tacked to our weathered post, complete with several colorful photos, desperately offers a handsome reward. The flier also alleges that the golden white-faced cat was trapped and then dumped in my area.

This pretty feline has been missing since August and now winter is just around the corner. The canyon can be merciless for a pet that is accustomed to warmth and love.

It may seem naive — a little too hopeful — but I’m praying for a miracle.

It’s been three years since Miles had his miraculous rescue. I’d love another deja vu.
