SPOKANE -- Kristyn Bohlander's shootout goal was the difference as the Braves locked up a Class 3A state berth Wednesday with a 5-3 shootout victory over Mt. Spokane after a 1-1 regulation tie.
Mount Spokane missed its fifth shot in the shootout, setting up Bohlander's heroics. Megan Young, Macy Brannan and Alisha Ngugen also scored in the shootout for the Braves, who earned their first shootout victory in three tries this season.
"The third one is the charm," Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. "We were pleased with (the shootout) and I think we are on the right track. They stepped up and they played well."
Alyssa Lloyd put Mount Spokane on top in the 28th minute and it remained that way for a long time, until Kamiakin's Ellie Heiden scored in the 62nd on an assist from Taylor Schutzenhofter.
"There was some domination from one team and then the other, kind of back and forth," Erikson said. "For a road trip, coming up here and playing at a field they hadn't played at ... they did well."
Sydnee Grant made 10 saves in goal for the Braves.
With the win, the Braves will play at Southridge at 1 p.m. Saturday with the regional title on the line. Mount Spokane will play host to University in a 1 p.m. loser-out match to determine the No. 3 seed.
